But the late start and the theft of equipment from the Late in the year, a second editor was named, who agreed to a smaller budget and a smaller staff. For reasons only known to the legislators and staff members involved, no compromise was reached. Upon the SGA's rejection of an unnecessarily large budget which had been submitted by the editor, she and her staff resigned. The 1977 edition fell victim to controversy between the editor and the Student Government Association, which at that time controlled the funding of the yearbook. It Is not a story that anyone should be proud of. The reasons lie with such things as personality conflicts, power struggles, incompetence, and politics - things that should not get in the way of publishing a yearbook. Each year needs to be examined separately, as the factors involved in each case were not related to each other. By covering the events of the 1978-79 year chronologically, this volume presents a clearer perspective of the times.īut first, there is a need to discuss the events that caused the cancellation of the book for two consecutive years. It covers the year in a way new to this university - a magazine-style format. This volume contains more color pages and more special effects than any yearbook ever published at East Carolina. That is not the only thing that makes this volume of the Buc special and unique. It is no secret that this is the first volume of the Buccaneer to be published in three years.
